Cauliflower Helps Prevent Cancer

11/1/2016

Do you like cauliflower? What’s your favorite way to make it? Numerous studies have shown that what you eat can have a big impact on your risk for cancer. Some of these studies have shown that cauliflower is especially beneficial for preventing certain types of cancer, such as breast, lung, stomach, colon and liver cancers.

Cauliflower contains antioxidants that prevent cancer
Cauliflower contains antioxidant compounds that help prevent cancer. One these is called sulphoraphane, and accounts for the distinctive smell you notice when you cook cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. This compound has been found to kill cancer stem cells and slow tumor growth. Research has found that combining sulphoraphane and curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) may help prevent and treat prostate cancer. It may also help prevent breast cancer. These compounds are broken down when you eat them during the chewing process. Your body uses them to repair your DNA and to inhibit the growth of mutated cancer cells. Current studies are being conducted in regards to cauliflower’s ability to delay or impede esophageal, melanoma, prostate, and pancreatic cancers. These mean that eating cauliflower is a great way to help prevent cancer and to help prevent a cancer recurrence.
