Cocoa is Good for Your Gut

The thought of some delicious dark chocolate makes me smile! Throughout my life I can count on one hand the number of people I have met who don’t like chocolate. You may have read that dark chocolate has health benefits, but did you know its actually good for your digestion? It turns out the good bacteria, or probiotics, in your gut love cocoa as much as you do!

Cocoa loves you as much as you love it!
A recent study from Louisiana State University found that cocoa powder actually increases the growth of good bacteria and decreases the growth of bad bacteria in your gut. This in turn allows your body to absorb the flavonoids in the chocolate that provide health benefits such as reducing inflammation in the blood vessels. Reducing inflammation keeps your heart healthy and blood flowing smoothly.

​Boost the benefits of cocoa by combining it with:
  • Bananas
  • Wheat-based foods, like whole-grain breads
  • Fruits like pomegranates or acai berries
