Walk It Off

11/15/2016

Do you ever feel really sluggish after a big meal, especially after Thanksgiving dinner? There is a solution that’s both healthy and enjoyable – take a walk! Taking a walk speeds up digestion faster than alcohol or coffee, multiple studies have found. The walk helps burn calories and helps moderate blood sugar. It doesn’t have to be a long walk, either! Just a 15-20 minute walk gives you all the benefits!

Walking is not only fun, its good for you!
Blood sugar typically rises and falls after eating. Large spikes can put you at risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Walking helps keep your blood sugar from spiking after a meal. Studies have found that a 20 minute walk 15 minutes after dinner reduces blood sugar more than taking a walk before dinner. Another study found that taking a 15 minute walk after each meal does more to regulate your blood sugar than one 45 minute walk in the morning. Researchers believe it works because your muscles are using up the blood sugar that is circulating in your blood after a meal.

So, how are you going to implement this into your life? Try taking a little stroll after your meals today! Get your family out for a lovely post-Thanksgiving dinner walk! If you would like to learn how to implement more healthy habits into your life, get my Free Healthy Habits E-Book.
